Our Story
MULATA began long before it had a name.
It was born from a Colombian woman’s desire to keep her roots alive while building a new life far from home.Amid the rhythm and diversity of Toronto, came the idea of creating something that spoke of origin, connection to the land, and the power of handmade art.
Colombian mochilas became the starting point. Their story originates from the Indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, who passed down a legacy of identity, technique, and meaning through their weaving. That knowledge has been preserved and reimagined by Colombian artisans who continue to bring this tradition to life today — adding new colors, materials, and contemporary touches.
At MULATA, we honor that origin and translate it into a modern language:
combining artisanal craftsmanship with mostacilla, shine, and contemporary design. Each piece reflects the meeting point between the ancestral and the modern, between cultural heritage and personal expression. What began as a personal journey has become a brand that celebrates Colombian craftsmanship through a modern, universal perspective.
Today, MULATA offers a collection of handcrafted bags and brooches — pieces that travel from Colombia to Toronto, connecting territories, stories, and ways of seeing the world.Because carrying a piece of MULATA is more than wearing an accessory —
it’s carrying a living legacy, reinvented in every thread.
